Joanna Lawton Ceramics

Joanna lives on the edge of the wilderness in far southern Tasmania, near the town of Dover. She came to this wild and beautiful place after finishing her fine arts degree about 35 years ago.

Over the years, Joanna has worked in many different mediums; weaving tapestry, felt, printmaking, glass, drawing, sculpting, painting, and clay.

Joanna’s ‘Seaweed Project’ has stemmed from immersing herself intuitively and collaboratively in tune with her environment and wild landscapes that surround. Collecting objects, they soon become the tools and talismans for Joanna’s work, speaking a voice of the place. Sticks, stones, shells, bones, feathers, and seaweed connect and reflect the powerful landscapes, forests, oceans and rock pools that surrounds her.
