The Old Bank of Geeveston

Our small seated boutique bistro is located in the old forest town of Geeveston, Tasmania. At the bottom of the world where the air is clean, at the foot of the Hartz Mountains. Where produce is abundant and you may be surprised with the offerings that are placed in front of you.

You’ll experience something wild, something pure and something Tasmanian, to evoke the essence of the past. This is reflected in our craft, making almost everything on the premises, just like the bygone era.

Our story

The Old Bank of Geeveston is an Art Deco heritage listed property originally constructed in 1937 as the First Commercial Bank Of Australia for the town of Geeveston when it was the height of the Tasmanian Forestry logging and fruit farming community. It later changed to a number of banking institutions and then went through a series of subsequent lives, including a Pool Hall/Saloon for a while, then a community hall for a number of years; and then stayed unoccupied for a period of time until it became altered and rezoned into a Real Estate Agency and restaurant around 17 years ago.

We, the current owners completed a restoration in 2016, sympathetic to the building, respectfully naming the business The Old Bank of Geeveston upon commencing trading on the 1st June 2016.

Our emphasis is on game meats sourced mostly from local farms focusing on sustainability and governance. In 2019 we also incorporated a small curated range of homewares with the emphasis on ethical trade and local artisans. We hope that you enjoy your experience at The Old Bank of Geeveston.
